Sogeti Group launches
TMap Next® Business Driven Test Management:

The latest publication in the world-leading TMap® series

Vianen, Netherlands, 12 November 2008 – Sogeti Group today launched the latest in its series of TMAP publications, TMap Next® Business Driven Test Management at the 16th EuroSTAR Conference in The Hague, Netherlands.

Written by Sogeti’s own test experts for both clients and test professionals, the Business Driven Test Management (BDTM) approach offers business and IT managers insight into the possibilities of exerting increased business control of the test process and can achieve a better balance between Result, Risk, Time and Cost. The concept of BDTM prioritises the result and gives the client of the test process the ability to manage the risk coverage, lead-time and cost of the test process in both the planning and the execution phases.

BDTM revolves around the client. It offers test managers an excellent toolset to translate the explicit business objectives for information systems into concrete, pragmatic and controllable test plans. This test governance ensures that the execution of these test plans is explicitly monitored and controlled, that risks are identified and mitigated, and that the test results refer directly back to the original business case.

This new book is aimed at two specific audiences: the client who wants to get an insight into what BDTM means for his organisation, and the test manager who wants in-depth descriptions of the activities to be carried out for each BDTM step. One of the specific characteristics of BDTM is identifying the test intensity and therefore the selection of the appropriate test design techniques. The BDTM approach, part of the TMap® methodology, helps to ensure that the intensity of testing is in direct relation to the business requirements identified in the business case, and so costing no more time and money than is necessary.

The book also contains an introduction to and summary of the TMap NEXT® Test Management Approach. TMap® is the de facto industry standard for structured testing, used worldwide in public and private sector organisations, which can be summarised in four essential principles:

  • Business Driven Test Management - testing based on business considerations
  • Full description of the test process, from strategy to execution
  • Complete ‘toolbox’ of technique descriptions and support
  • Adaptive method – suitable for most situations and environments.

In addition, this publication incorporates experience and feedback from users and testing assignments, and many practical examples, making it a highly valuable and practical tool for meeting the current and future challenges in the field of testing. Published by specialist IT publisher Tutein Nolthenius, the book expands on the concepts of business-case driven testing first described in the test classic TMap NEXT®, for result-driven testing. Priced at €24,00, TMap Next® Business Driven Test Management (ISBN number: 90-72194-80-2) can be purchased at selected bookstores, or contact www.utn.nl.

According to Hans van Waayenburg, CEO of Sogeti Europe and Head of Sogeti’s Testing Solutions, “this latest book strengthens Sogeti’s position as the premier thought leaders in the field of business-oriented test strategy and execution around the world”.

Luc-François Salvador, CEO of Sogeti SA, adds, in the book’s Preface, that for business, IT and test managers alike, putting into practice the in-depth explanations of Business Driven Test Management [can] “support you with reaching your business benefits … predictable software engineering is indeed attainable by your organization.”
